What is an AI growth engine?

An AI growth engine finds likely buyers, contacts them, handles replies and books sales calls, with AI doing the repetitive work and a person owning the quality.

By Carey McLean, software engineer for 26+ years

The short answer

An AI growth engine is a system that finds likely buyers for your product, reaches out to them, answers their replies, and books sales calls on your calendar.

The AI does the repetitive parts. A person sets it up, watches it, and owns the quality. You show up for the conversations.

The term isn't standardized, so different companies mean different things by it. Here's what we mean when we use it.

The five steps

Our version runs in a fixed order. We do the first four, and you do the fifth.

Step What happens Who does it
Find Work out the ideal buyer, then build a list of real people who fit We do
Contact Reach out with intro messages and follow-ups in your voice We do
Reply An AI sales assistant keeps conversations moving and answers easy questions We do
Book When it's a fit, the assistant books the call on your calendar We do
Talk You have the call with someone who already knows why you're talking You do

That's all of it. Everything else is detail.

What each step really involves

Find. This is the step that decides everything else. If the buyer is vague, the outreach is noise. We pin down who gets the most out of your software, then build a list of named people at companies that fit. We skip the ones who don't.

Contact. The first message, plus follow-ups. They're written to sound like you. You never write one, but you do approve them before anything goes out.

Reply. Replies are where most outreach quietly dies. Someone says "tell me more" and nobody answers for three days. The assistant answers fast and handles the easy questions. A person on our team watches the conversations that need one, and drafts the reply for your approval.

Book. No back and forth about times. The call lands on your calendar, with notes on who you're meeting.

Talk. Your whole job. A real prospect, a real conversation.

What it can't do

An honest description includes the limits.

  • It can't fix a product nobody wants. Outreach finds out whether people care. It can't make them care.
  • It can't promise a number of calls. Replies depend on your market, your offer, and your buyer. Anyone who guarantees a number is guessing.
  • It can't replace your judgment on the call. The assistant gets you to the conversation. You close it.
  • It can't make a vague buyer specific. That takes a real conversation with you first.

That's why we don't promise a number of calls. We show you who we found, who replied, and who booked, every month, on one page.

What it isn't

It isn't a chatbot on your website. It isn't an ad campaign. It isn't software you log into and configure yourself.

It also isn't fully hands-off in the sense of nobody watching. A person owns the quality, and that person is on the hook if the messages are off.

An illustrative week

This is an example of how one cycle could look, not a client result.

  1. Find: Head of Ops at a 40-person logistics company. She fits the ideal buyer.
  2. Contact: "Saw you're hiring dispatchers. Our tool cuts route planning to minutes. Worth a quick look?"
  3. Reply: "Actually yes. We're drowning in spreadsheets. Thursday?"
  4. Book: Thursday at 1:30 pm PT lands on your calendar.
  5. Talk: You take the call.

Most weeks won't be that tidy. Some people won't reply, some will say no, and some will say not yet. That's normal.

Who it's for

Our Growth Engine is built for you if you're in one of these spots:

  • You run a SaaS business with a working product
  • You're on a B2B software team without a sales team
  • You make apps and have built something that needs buyers
  • You'd rather build than sell

No product yet? We build those too: see how we build apps.

Who builds it

We build apps for businesses ready to grow. Then we help them find buyers. Build it, then grow it.

A software engineer with 26+ years leads every engagement. You talk with that person on your kickoff call, and you get 30-minute check-ins while we build your engine, so we can adjust as we go and make sure it fits your business. Because we build software every day, we know how to explain what yours does and who it's really for.
