Customers want to make the first move, not the other way around. We, businesses, do not want to behave like street peddlers do we? No….we sure don’t!
So What Does Mobile Text Message Marketing Have To Do With Dating?
Consider this analogy: You want to ask someone out on a first date. Do you call him relentlessly until he gives in? Would you say, “Hey, you have NO idea who I am , but I’m glad I found you. Now let’s go on a date. It will be worth your while and, trust me, you NEED me. I’m a quality woman and reasonably inexpensive. No? Not today? You sure? I have a great thing going on just for this week. Okay, I will call you in a few days to see where you’re at.” A little obnoxious, right? If you think of clients the same way you would think of potential dates, perhaps you would reconsider your approach. Let’s face it, our customers like to be the assertive ones. They want to seek you out and they want you to be ready, but only when THEY are ready. This is precisely why mobile text message marketing is so effective – customers have control…they are driving and you are in the backseat.
Let’s chat about this analogy for a second….customers want to be the drivers. Just because you are in the backseat, does NOT mean you aren’t holding the directions. You are in the vehicle…you are IN! They know you are there and they will move you up to the passenger seat when they WANT your company (LITERALLY)! They have the ability to decide who they engage with. They decide whether they opt-in to read about your amazing deals and events. They decide whether or not they are ready. Utilizing mobile text marketing allows your customers to take control while giving you the edge that takes the edge off the customer.
Have you heard the saying Make sure you find a man who loves you MORE than you love him…? If you can see why this quote would work for someone, then you can see how this piece of advice also works for a business. This is why mobile text message marketing works…let the consumers drive the process. Let them love you so much that they come straight to you! Text message marketing = loyalty.

This is a great analogy!!! I know that when I am a “buyer,” I cannot STAND when sales people pester me relentlessly.
A recent example…a rep from Wells Fargo who was helping me with my business checking account asked if we would be interested in their merchant services. I said, “Maybe in the future. Right now we are all set with XXXX company.” He said, “No problem! I’ll send your info to my friend in that department and he will follow up with you.” I did not really want this, but thought, no biggie…then I’ll know who to call down the road when/if I want to switch.
Well, this new guy called me EVERY DAY for a week and left message after message even when I did not return his calls. I am way too busy with my own clients’ needs to field and dodge calls from a product that I never really wanted in the first place.
All this made me think was, “I will never work with these guys. Especially not the one calling.”
